Faced with the spectacular increase in maritime traffic at Tanger Med Port Complex, and the arrival of mega-container ships — a veritable revolution in maritime transport — it became imperative to reinforce port infrastructures to guarantee optimal maneuver management. With this in mind, Tanger Med Port has strengthened its fleet with the acquisition of two new tugboats, VB AZLA and VB AMSA, supplied by Boluda, a major player in the field of maritime assistance.
These high-capacity tugs are specially designed to meet the requirements of the largest vessels, with superior pulling power to ensure effective assistance even in the most complex conditions. This acquisition marks a decisive step in guaranteeing the safety of operations in this strategic maritime hub.
The efficiency of port operations depends largely on coordination between the pilot and the tug. While the pilot, a port expert, guides the vessel according to local conditions (weather, currents, etc.), the tug provides the power needed to carry out the maneuvers. This synergy is essential to ensure the smooth flow of maritime traffic and minimize the risk of incidents.
The introduction of VB AZLA and VB AMSA demonstrates Tanger Med’s and Boluda’s ongoing commitment to anticipating the evolution of maritime transport. By investing in state-of-the-art equipment, these two entities aim to maintain the port’s competitiveness in a constantly changing environment.
With these new tugs, Tanger Med confirms its leading position as a key gateway between Europe, Africa, and the rest of the world, consolidating its status as the most efficient and strategic port in the Mediterranean basin and Africa.
