New Vehicles

New Vehicles Activity was commissioned at Tanger Med Port in 2012. With a processing capacity of 1 million new vehicles per year, the car carrier terminal of the Port Complex is subdivided into two terminals: the Renault Vehicle Terminal (RVT) and the Multi-User Vehicle Terminal (MUVT).

The Port Complex’s two vehicle terminals handled a total of 600,872 vehicles in 2024, representing a 4% increase compared to the previous year. This includes 368,843 vehicles exported by the Renault factories in Melloussa and SOMACA in Casablanca, 170,519 vehicles exported by the Stellantis plant in Kenitra, 34,100 vehicles in transshipment, and 27,410 vehicles imported.

Renault's Vehicle Terminal (RVT)

The Renault Vehicle Terminal covers an area of 13 hectares with a nominal storage capacity of 6,000 vehicles. It can handle the annual production of 400,000 vehicles produced by the Renault Tanger Med plant.

This terminal has two quays that can accommodate the latest generation of cargo vessels (up to 240 m in length and 12 m in depth).

Common User Vehicle Terminal (CUVT)

Adjacent to the RVT and covering an area of 5.5 ha, with a storage capacity of 3,000 vehicles, the multi-user vehicle terminal has the same mole with two quays that can accommodate the latest generation of car carriers (up to 240 m in length), as well as technical and administrative buildings to provide quality services for vehicles for export, transshipment, or import such as PSA, Nissan, Ford, Fiat, Honda, Hyundai, etc.

Railway Vehicle Terminal

The Railway Vehicle Terminal has an unloading dock and 4 lanes with a usable length of 240 m, allowing the processing of half a rack per lane. This terminal allows the processing of export trains from the Renault Tanger Med plant and the Stellantis plant in Kenitra. Each vehicle train can carry up to 280 vehicles.

Innovative storage capacity

As part of the reinforcement of the storage capacity of the car carrier terminal, Tanger Med has launched a project to build a multi-level parking lot with 2,400 additional storage spaces. This new multi-level parking lot will support the growth of vehicle exports produced in Morocco (Renault Tanger Med plant, Somaca Casablanca plant, and Stellantis Kenitra plant) and thus consolidate Tanger Med’s role as a major hub for the transshipment of new vehicles.

Export Access, a privileged infrastructure for Moroccan exports

Tanger Med port is a prime platform for Moroccan exporters. It has a 19 Ha infrastructure dedicated to the treatment of export flows with a processing capacity of 2,100 units per day and an average transit time of 2 hours. The platform allows to process exports of Moroccan products in the industrial and agri-food sectors. Import traffic is geographically separated from export traffic, which allows for linearity of flows and transparency of circuits.

Digitization for logistics competitiveness

The procedures for the import and export of trucks are fully dematerialized through Tanger Med Port Community System. Tanger Med Port Complex customers can complete port passage procedures online and file all necessary documents electronically with the services responsible for managing import-export activities.

The passengers in vehicles circuit benefits from infrastructure that allows for the physical separation of vehicle traffic in and out of Morocco from check-in to boarding, with total separation of freight flows sent through Tanger Med Passenger port. This separation has made it possible to double processing capacity and reduce passenger transit times during peak periods while ensuring better conditions of comfort, safety, and security. And to further optimize transit time during medium and low traffic periods, a new passenger vehicle route has been developed to add a new border inspection area to fluidify traffic within the Port.

Automobile Access is the gateway for travelers in vehicles to purchase or confirm tickets. Travelers will also be able to purchase and confirm tickets online to avoid waiting in the ticketing and confirmation zone.

This access zone is equipped with all the necessary services for travelers such as food and beverage services, currency exchange, sanitary facilities, an information desk, a large broadcasting screen for instant display of vessel departure and arrival times, and green and covered areas. Additionally, a space of 1.8 ha that serves as a Port Regulation Zone has been developed and equipped with the necessary services for waiting passengers.

Tanger Med, a bunkering port on the Strait of Gibraltar

The bunkering activity has been operational since 2011 in the Port Complex. It consists in supplying ships visiting Tanger Med Port as well as ships passing through the Strait with fuel. This activity has been subcontracted by the concessionaire HTTSA to the company MINERVA BUNKERING, which has barges for this purpose in the Port area.

This activity allows vessels to take advantage of their commercial calls to stock up on hydrocarbons. Currently, more than 1.6 million tons of bunker products are delivered from Tanger Med.

Supply of LPG to the Moroccan market

The hydrocarbon terminal launched in 2017 the unloading activity of gas vessels carrying two main types of hydrocarbons constituting LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), butane, and propane. The aim is to have new Port Capacities to meet the needs of the national LPG market.

Tanger Med is the leading container port in the Mediterranean and Africa

Since its commissioning in 2007, Tanger Med has established itself as one of the most important container transshipment hubs in the Mediterranean. This position continues to be consolidated thanks to the excellent performance of the main shipowners operating in container terminals, namely Maersk Line, CMA-CGM, Hapag Lloyd, etc.

The port complex handled 10,241,392 containers* in 2024, representing a growth of 18.8% increase compared to 2023.

This performance is the result of the trust and commitment of port operators and shipping lines, as well as the high productivity levels achieved by all teams.

This result was also made possible by the strengthening of certain facilities, the commissioning of new equipment, and the optimization of maritime calls, which helped reduce waiting and maneuvering times.

Tanger Med represents an excellent export and connectivity opportunity to support the development of Moroccan/World trade, thanks to its rail and highway links within its ecosystem.

Innovative management of maritime calls

The management of maritime calls at Tanger Med Port is entirely dematerialized through its Port Community System. Requests for berth allocation and additional services, port call documents, order of vessel movements, port call priority…are managed through an instant, secure, and participative exchange.
